THE HOST (2013)

From the author of the Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer, comes this quaint love story. She also co-produced the film.

Starring Saoirse Ronan with a very able young cast and veteran William Hurt, the story is set in the future. Earth has been invaded by an alien species who occupies the bodies of human hosts; hence the title. Melanie Stryder (Ronan) is one such host. However, as she is also still alive inside the same body, she battles the more timid alien for ultimate control thereof. But when the two "entities" fall in love with two different guys, the conflict this causes, heads for disaster.

This is an interesting notion and the resulting dilemma poses some thought-provoking philosophical questions. Unfortunately, this aspect is not really fully explored. In stead, the plot unravels rather neatly supposedly in order to satisfy the intended audience. In other words: they all lived happily ever after. Still, overall it is a movie with good production value. I therefor rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
